When Joel first enrolled in AFFCF’s Keys to Success program, it was to get assistance in gaining employment and enrolling in a GED program. Sometimes life gets complicated.

An Unexpected Turn

Circumstances in Joel’s life took an unexpected turn and he needed more assistance than he originally intended. Not only did he find himself homeless, all his belonging were stolen. It seemed that life was handing him one horrible experience after another for him and preventing him from accomplishing his goals.

Thanks to our partnership with Foster AZ, Joel’s Keys to Success team helped him get into the housing program. Having a safe, stable place to live allowed him to focus on his original goals of getting a job and finding a GED program that worked for him. Once he earns his GED, Joel plans to become a barber.

When it seemed like all the odds were stacked against him, Joel persevered. He had a whole team of people working to address his immediate needs while also helping him set goals for his future.

“Now I have so many things to look forward to. Thank you for all you’ve done and for helping me chase my dreams.”

Chasing Dreams

He recently told his Keys to Success career development specialist, “Now I have so many things to look forward to. Thank you for all you’ve done and for helping me chase my dreams.”

We are excited to watch Joel grow into his full potential – it’s just the beginning for this determined young man!

They Need Your Help

For young men and women transitioning out of foster care, they face so many obstacles that their peers don’t. The Keys to Success program helps these young people to realize they can rise above the obstacles to create better lives for themselves. From teaching job readiness skills to sharing resources or just being present, the Keys to Success team supports them throughout their journey to adulthood.

You can help young people in our Keys to Success program, like Joel, by making a contribution to Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. Individuals can contribute up to $500 and joint filers can contribute up to $1,000 and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on their Arizona state taxes. Give today at affcf.org/give.
