Tyler is one of 159 youth actively participating in AFFCF’s Keys to Success program, which empowers youth to make informed decisions about their future and builds skills that will help them win in both career and life achievement.

Eager to Work

Tyler joined the Keys to Success program late last year, and already is on a winning track. Just 17 years old, he wanted a job and worked diligently with his employment development specialist to complete the KTS employment readiness courses. He also actively engaged in mock interview preparation, taking the time to gain confidence in his interview skills.

Strong Initiative

When he began the job searching phase of the KTS program, Tyler submitted his application to Oldie’s Ice Cream Shop independently. Then he followed up with the employer via email to advocate for himself and why he should be selected for the job. Spoiler alert…he got the job!

In the short time that he’s been working, Tyler was offered another position at the ice cream shop owner’s secondary restaurant! With the help of his EDS, he opened a bank account and saved $500 in a month. He set a goal to save enough money to buy a truck by the end of the summer.

Tyler’s string of wins is just the beginning of a bright future!
