When Marqus first enrolled in the Keys to Success program, he wasn’t looking for help figuring out a career. He already knew exactly what he wanted to do: become a nurse. What he needed was support navigating the complex path to get there. With college applications looming and a confusing FAFSA form in front of him, Marqus reached out for guidance and the support he received helped him gain traction toward his dreams.
Juggling Jobs, School and a Dream
Marqus is a remarkable young man. At just 18, he juggled two jobs while finishing high school and completing a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program. In fact, he recently graduated and earned his CNA certification, two major steps toward the career he’s passionate about.
He’s not stopping there. Marqus joined HOSA (Health Care Occupations Student Association), where he’s not only building valuable leadership skills, but also hopes to travel to Washington, D.C. for the national conference, his first time leaving Phoenix. His ambition is matched by his drive: he recently bought his own car and moved out on his own the moment he turned 18.
A Bright Future
Marqus was recently accepted into the Pre-Nursing program at Northern Arizona University, and he’s thrilled to begin this next chapter. Though he has never visited the campus, he’s eager to tour it soon and even more excited to start building his future there.
Right now, he’s diving into financial literacy and scholarship opportunities to help make his college journey a reality. With his resilience, determination, and the right support, Marqus is well on his way to making a lasting impact as a compassionate, capable nurse.
