Meet Liam. Earlier this year he began working at a fast food restaurant. Things were going well until COVID-19 hit. In March, his employer started reducing his hours little by little until finally they had no choice but to let him go altogether in July.

Enter Keys to Success

Before his was officially let go, Liam enrolled in AFFCF’s Keys to Success (KTS) program. Upon their first meeting, his career development specialist (CDS) learned that he wants to become a mechanic. Naturally, his CDS thought of KTS employer partner, Subaru Superstore of Chandler.

Working with his CDS, Liam completed a job application and AFFCF was able to purchase dress pants for an interview. His CDS reached out to our friends at Subaru and Liam was granted an interview.

Last week, he found out he got the job and is on the road to achieving his career goals!

Why It Matters

Liam’s story is an example of how the KTS staff going above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure youth in foster care, or who have aged out of foster care, are not forgotten. Their work to connect youth to the right resources is vital, now more than ever.

Your support of the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation makes programs like Keys to Success possible. Please help us sustain this life-changing work by donating at affcf.org/givenow and helping young people like Liam.
