Meet Britney, a bright young woman participating in AFFCF’s Keys to Success (KTS) program.

Just Getting By

Before enrolling in the program, Britney was getting through high school. She wanted to get a job. Like many other young men and women in foster care, her main obstacle was not having her vital documents (birth certificate, social security card and ID). Without these items, Britney could not even apply for a job.

Working with her career development specialist (CDS) and employment development specialist (EDS), Britney identified areas of interest that would be good for her to pursue. One of the areas, cosmetology was something she had considered previously.

First Job

It took a while but with the help of her KTS team, Britney finally had access to her vital documents, which meant she could begin applying for jobs. This summer – even in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis – she managed to land her first-ever job at IHOP, working as a graveyard server.

This fall, Britney begins her senior year of high school. She plans to attend the University of Arizona to study business and cosmetology.

Watch out world, Britney’s coming for you! Thanks to the coaching and the connections she received through the KTS program, Britney has a solid plan for her future.
