Tori joined the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation’s Keys to Success program in June and needed help mapping out life beyond foster care. The Prescott-based teen participated in career exploration and determined that she wanted a career as an esthetician.

Charting a Path

Together, Tori and her career development specialist (CDS), reviewed different school options in the Valley, as she expressed a desire to relocate to Maricopa County. She settled on Primrose Beauty School after securing funding from her FAFSA and the Education Tuition Voucher. Her CDS also helped her complete the housing voucher, so she will have reliable housing while she attends school.

A Helping Hand

Tori also needed a job and her employment development specialist (EDS) helped her with employment readiness. Her EDS also helped her with interview clothing, and when she landed a job at Wal-Mart, helped her get work clothing and open a bank account.

Her CDS says that Tori is very engaged and has a bright future. Tori plans to transfer her job at Wal-Mart to a location in the Valley so she can continue to work while attending school.

“Tori is very focused and I have no doubt that she will be successful in life,” commented her CDS, Helene Tonnemacher.

Help Create Brighter Futures

Tori is one of 193 young men and women in foster care participating in the Keys to Success program, which goes beyond helping them find employment. Together, our career and employment development specialists work to help youth discover their potential, develop job readiness skills and take an active role in determining their futures. They also provide emotional support and connections to other resources that will help them succeed in life and career.

You can support the work of the Keys to Success program by making a contribution to Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation. Individuals can contribute up to $500 and joint filers can contribute up to $1,000 and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on their Arizona state taxes. Give today at affcf.org/give.
